Norma Jean Welsh is the Principal of Shamona Creek Elementary. She has a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Delaware and a M.Ed. from Wilmington University. After teaching kindergarten and first grade for 17 years, Norma Jean served as an Assistant Principal at a large urban school in Wilmington, Delaware. During her tenure, she was the administrator for the Early Childhood Center, including full day kindergarten classes and an early intervention preschool. Norma Jean's career took her to Lansdowne, PA, where she was the Principal of a K -6 elementary school. In 2007, she joined DASD as Principal of Brandywine Wallace Elementary. During that first year, Norma Jean facilitated the move to Springton Manor to allow for the renovation of Brandywine Wallace. Norma Jean attended the Harvard Graduate School Change Leadership program and has taken graduate level classes at the University of Delaware and Penn State.
Norma Jean has a strong background in Positive Behavior Support and Response to Instruction and Intervention. She uses a hands-on approach to leadership and enjoys interacting with the students, staff and parents.
